"THE FORMATS" TO PERFORM AT
NAB MARCONI RADIO AWARDS DINNER & SHOW

WASHINGTON, DC - The NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show will feature a performance by "The Formats," a broadcaster band led by legendary blues guitarist and BMI songwriter Steve Cropper and featuring FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein on harmonica.

Other band members include:

Vocals - NAB Joint Board Chairman and Bonneville International Corporation President and CEO Bruce Reese, Emmis Communications CEO Jeff Smulyan, Sandusky Radio President Norman Rau, Regent Communications Senior Vice President, Operations Fred Murr, and BMI President and CEO Del Bryant.

Guitar - Air America's Gary Krantz and ABC Radio Group President Mitch Dolan.

Keyboard - Greater Media President and CEO Peter Smyth.

Bass - Norm Phillips, most recently with Susquehanna Radio.

Drums - South Central Communications President-Radio Craig Jacobus and URBan Radio Broadcasting President Kevin Wagner.

Former Jefferson Pilot President-Radio Clarke Brown is the band's producer and is encouraging other musically-inclined broadcasters to contact him at clarkebrown@bellsouth.net.

Cropper and his band, Booker T. and the MG's, were tapped as the backup band for Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in the 1980 hit, The Blues Brothers. In addition to being a founding member of both Booker T. and the MG's and The Mar-Keys, Cropper boasts an impressive songwriting resume, composing hits for Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd, Aretha Franklin and numerous others. Cropper was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005.

In 2003, Cropper was recognized by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top 100 guitar players of all-time. England's Mojo magazine named him the number two guitarist of all time in 1996, second only to Jimi Hendrix.

Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, The NAB Marconi Radio Awards are given to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio. Winners will be announced at the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
