Media
Relations
Successful
conferences and exhibitions bring in attendees from around the world,
and an often-overlooked segment of these attendees are the press.
Good press coverage is key to a successful exhibit.
Here
are four suggestions to get you started on creating successful media
coverage of your exhibit.
- Press Lists
- Obtain and utilize last year's and this year's press lists by
completing the Publicity
Questionnaire. The NAB provides e-mail and mailing addresses
as well as phone and fax numbers of consenting registered media.
Check back in August to view the list of those press registered
for The NAB Radio Show who have consented to have their information
made available to The NAB Radio Show exhibitors.
- Work with
the NAB - Contact John Milner in the NAB Corporate Communications
office, (202) 429-5428 or jmilner@nab.org,
for advice and to pitch why your presence at the show is newsworthy.
The NAB is in contact with many reporters prior to the show and
is often asked what will be hot.
- Start Early
- Start promoting your presence at the show early through press
releases, press kits, targeted pitches and phone calls.
- Press Kits
- Bring press materials to the show to distribute onsite in the
newsroom and in your booth.
The Publicity
Questionnaire
To ensure successful media coverage of your booth, the NAB highly
recommends that you submit a Publicity
Questionnaire. By completing this form, you will receive a press
list and other media relations materials to give you a start on
where to break into the press. The questionnaire should be submitted
by fax to (202) 429-3933 by August 25, 2006.
Generating
Press Coverage
Start by researching which publications and media outlets will give
you the most press attention and contact them early.
News Releases
News releases are a great and effective way to brief the press on
your company's latest developments as well as its products or services.
The NAB has several means of news release distribution options:
- Fax and
e-mail
- Electronic
News service
- The NAB
Radio Show Newsroom
For tips on
writing news releases, please consult the Media
Relations guide.
Contacting
Editors/Reporters
It is important to contact editors and reporters before, during
and after The NAB Radio Show. They come to the show eager to learn
more about hot new products and services that their readers can
buy in the coming year, but it is up to you to ensure press coverage
of your booth. Consult the Media Relations guide for tips on creating
effective media coverage.
