Steve Marx will show you the keys steps to creating more value-for the advertiser and for yourself-from both your broadcast and your online assets…and why the disintermediation of marketing requires you to need to act now! |

The Infinite Dial
September 26, 2007 2:15PM - 3:30PM
Charlotte Convention Center 217A
In the AM radio days, perhaps there were a half-dozen radio choices for most consumers. With the advent of FM, the number expanded to perhaps 20 or 30 options. Today, with satellite radio, streaming and pod-casts, the options are nearly infinite. The consumer will soon see an ‘Infinite Dial’, where any kind of radio, for any kind of taste, will be available at any time. How will your station compete in such an environment, where anyone can find anything at any time? This presentation discusses strategies that a local station can employ to make it self relevant today, and into the future.

Super Session - The Bedroom Project: How Young Americans Use, Consume and Interact with Technology and Media
September 26, 2007 3:45PM - 5:00PM
Charlotte Convention Center Ballroom
Get ready for a revolutionary breakthrough in digital media research! For the last 6 months, Jacobs Media has teamed up with Arbitron to provide the radio industry with an exciting new consumer research project. “The Bedroom Project” will present the industry with a new look at how young adults use digital media in their everyday lives.
The project surveys 30 young adults, ages 18-28, on their use of digital media devices in their natural surroundings. Applying a new research technique dubbed “Ethnographic” research interviewers went straight into homes, apartments, dormitories, cars and even bedrooms to observe how young adults use digital media and to explore their attitudes about survey research. The technique provides a new look on when, where and how young adults are using technology, and what devices are appealing to this demographic.
Arbitron retained Jacobs Media to create and conduct this ethnographic research project among thirty 18-28 year-olds, residing in Columbus, OH and Los Angeles, CA. They included representative gender and ethnicity characteristics. The interviews were conducted in February 2007 by trained researchers in the same age range as these respondents, under the supervision of Jacobs Media. All of the interviews were videotaped and transcribed for analysis. These two-hour interviews were conducted in respondents’ residences, as well as in their vehicles (weather permitting). Requirements for participation were high speed Internet and home computer access, as well as cell phone ownership.
“The Bedroom Project” will be presented by Fred Jacobs of Jacobs Media, Wednesday, Sept. 26th at 3:45 PM. Don’t miss this must attend session!

Green-Tuning Your Facility
September 28, 2007 10:30AM - 11:45AM
Charlotte Convention Center 218A
Building “green” has gotten a lot of attention lately, but what is it, and, more importantly, what does it mean for building, expanding, and/or renovating your broadcast facility? This seminar looks at how site selection, space use programs, and strategic building design and construction can serve not only the planet, but your corporate bottom line. You’ll walk away finally understanding that, yes, it’s easy being green -- but it’s also affordable, logical, and lucrative. The presenters’ recent book, "A Face for Radio: Radio Station Planning and Design," will be raffled off and three session attendees will be selected to receive a free initial energy audit.
The material for this session is drawn in part from presenters Peter Bloomfield and Mark Motl’s recent book, "A Face for Radio: Radio Station Planning and Design", published by Focal Press in association with the NAB. The book is available through the NAB website (www.nab.org) and will also be available at the Radio Show.
